Examining Mathematical Representation to Solve Problems in Trends in Mathematics and Science Study: Voices from Indonesian Secondary School Students

This study describes the mathematical processes in TIMSS (Trends Mathematics and Science Study) to reflect issues. A descriptive qualitative methodology was used this analysis as research approach. The allocated respondent 6th grade students of Muhammadiyah 6 sub-district Dau, Malang regency, East Java, Indonesia. Using a 2011 test interview, data obtained. results showed that visual representation took place both classes high, medium, low capacity. Students high capacity conducted symbolic process at comprehension level, while medium performed problem-solving stage. In addition, they wrote topics, writing conclusions done by who had skill. potential when questions completed conclusions. with level skill what understood asked about
